Show & Tell

Last night was very productive night for me. I picked up some chick flicks at the library (Baby Mama...very funny and Definitely, Maybe...ahhh) and headed up to the studio to sew. I had finished BWOF 5/08 #104 a couple days ago. Love it! Will be nice for a warm Spring day with a sweater or even can be warn as a jumper with a thin turtleneck. Done in just a simple cotton knit, I think this will be very versatile for my work wardrobe, even though people think I have a job interview when I wear a dress to work. What has happened...can't a girl dress pretty anymore without being suspect? I finished BWOF 2/08 #103B (aka the Tippi Hedron dress) and am totally over the moon with this dress. When I first saw it, I thought the abdomen detail would scream...big fat tummy!!! I couldn't have been more wrong. The waist treatment gives a nice V line to the upper and lower portions of the garment and actually is quite slimming. So let that be a lesson boys and girls...don't make assumptions that a particular design will make you look fat, because sometimes that isn't the case. Try new things on because you might be pleasantly surprised like Aunt Mary was. Another fear factor I had when considering this dress was the twist detail. It looks really complicated, but don't be fooled. It actually makes sense when you start putting it all together. It just takes a little focus and patience. It's almost like putting together a jigsaw puzzle, but once you've got it, it seems so simple. I made this in a slinky sparkly knit I picked up off the clearance rack at Jo Ann's. You know how fabric sometimes calls your name. It is kind of a random type print and the copper sparkles are not for everyday, but it will be a nice dress to wear out to dinner or to a nice party. I plan to make another in an everyday type knit because I already want to wear this dress (and have nowhere worthy to go) I told Tom "This is my I'm 50 and fabulous birthday dress" to go out to dinner...he pointed out that we will be in LaPine over my birthday...I think people would find it a bit much for Gordy's Truck Stop. Here is a picture of the twist detail:So now I only have a skirt left to finish and am in the thinking stage for some new projects. I love this stage! Tom just gave me an assignment for a dust cover for the fish finder. He is cleaning up the boat to go out sturgeon fishing with Jason. Jason said "we should probably get a fishing trip in while you can still see"...hehehe! We are such a sarcastic bunch here. I have some nice waterproof camo with a fleecy underside...I told him I would stitch it up right away since I have brown thread on the serger. He remarked "black would look nicer" Grrrr...he knows I get all anal about matching my thread...I think I'll just use brown as an exercise in "letting go" Not that it matters...he just likes to mess with me. Better get off the computer and get to work. We are going to the movies this afternoon to see "Taken" Maybe I'll wear Tippi...see how it plays in Sandy!!!

I love both dresses. I have made the twist one, but I haven't done the first one yet. They both look great.

I turn 50 on March 29th. I have taken the week off from work and Sara is on Spring break so we are going to LaPine to work on the property, visit friends and just relax!!!

I adore that brown dress! Maybe I can make my graduation dress from that pattern? It's dressy but not too dressy - might be perfect. Love you!!

We can do that Punkin, or maybe you will find something you like better in BWOF. We can look on Thursday. The 5/08 issue has some awesome dresses!

Mary, those are amazingly beautiful dresses!!! I love the belt buckle on the solid color--the v-lines and the focal point of the belt is such a slimming design.
