Same Time, Next Year

Thrift shopping takes diligence.  And the patience to wait for what you want.  I collect movies.  I adore OLD movies.  I have been looking for my favorite movie for I don't know how long.  Every time I go thrift shopping or garage saling I scour old VHS tapes looking for the Holy Grail, but up I have never seen the coveted title. Until today.  I almost missed it.  I wandered into the Book Nook as I had a little time to kill.  I didn't see any new titles in the sewing and craft section or any "free" magazines that interested me.  I wandered in to check out the shelf of video tapes and I couldn't believe it when I saw "Same Time, Next Year" sitting there.  I just about let out a whoop, but I didn't want to seem over enthused so the price might go up.  Same Time, Next Year is a romantic comedy of sorts starring Alan Alda and Ellen Burstyn.  A chance meeting leads to a lifelong affair where they return to the same inn every year to see each other.  I must confess I had a big crush on Alan Alda.  From portraying Hawkeye Pierce in "Mash" to the "West Wing"...he always makes me smile.  I find a sense of humor mighty attractive in a man, and it doesn't matter how hot someone is, life would be pretty dull without a few laughs now and again.  I also picked up some other classics...Marlon Brando in "A Streetcar named Desire"; "From Here to Eternity"; and "The Blues Brothers" just because...Guess I know what I'll be watching during the Memorial Day Sew-a-thon!

I love that movie! Regardless of how many times I see it, I end up crying when toward the end. I can't make up my mind if I'm immoral for wanting them to be together, or just romantic.

I know Gwen...I should be outraged by the adultery, but as the story unfolds it seems to enhance and save their marriages. Another movie that I love is "The Bridges of Madison County". We had quite the heated debate at work when that book came out...some people were really offended by the story. I found it tragic and sweet.

Yes, I love Bridges also. I read the book and it's sequel and have watched the movie over and over. And I cry.
