Last year I was very prolific, cranking out 30 dresses. This September I only eeked out seven dresses for the cause. Every little effort helps...

After I finished those dresses and shipped them off, I got back to work on my Fall capsule wardrobe. In addition to the Love Notions Arlington turtleneck I finished, I made a Sinclair Patterns Harper cardigan in a mauve and cream tribal knit from Olga's Closet. I love the quality of their fabrics, but there always seems to be an issue with shipping with each order. Don't know if I'll order from them again. Truth be told, I probably never need to buy fabric again (who am I kidding? Y'all know I will š¤£) Anywho...my sweet Baboo is gone hunting, so I am free to sew all day (aside from throwing the ball for the dog... priorities...) Guess I'd best be getting to it. Have a blessed day!

Maryissewfasthttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12780345687245124170noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7011714312433909301.post-38693891801653027252023-09-26T06:51:00.003-07:002023-09-26T06:51:21.198-07:00I'm Sewing...
I've been sewing...I swear! Actually I've been doing a lot of cutting and prep work, but have minimal completed projects. I am to remedy that this week. I cut out 6 Project Dress a Girl dresses and a black and white striped Love Notions Arlington turtleneck sweater, as well as a nice thick camel colored ponte for a pair of fall leggings. My Sweetheart will be heading out to hunting camp next week, so it will be sewing 24/7 for a couple of weeks! I took in the free motion quilting summit put on by Mary go Round quilts this past weekend and am excited to get working on some quilt UFOs. I just finished the last of the Pendleton wool selvage crochet rugs last night, so I'll be giving my hands a break from crochet for a few days. Oh, and then there's the diamond paintings! Gotta finish those up too. Lastly, sad to hear of David McCallum's passing. From Ilya Kuryakun to Duckie...he was a great entertainer. RIP...
Maryissewfasthttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12780345687245124170noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7011714312433909301.post-68272515993609754162023-08-23T07:45:00.001-07:002023-08-23T07:48:33.956-07:00Meet Ruby! (Or alternative title "Whoops, I Did it Again!)
I had to go into "town" (I refer to LaPine loosely) yesterday and decided to pop into St. Vinnie's to see what the daily 50% off sale was. Bonus! Crafts were on sale, so I had to take a look. There was an older man with his daughter perusing the crafts and he turned around and exclaimed "ooh, Glitter!" That man is my people! The glitter was in a basket at my feet, so I handed it to him. We got into a discussion about, what else, sewing. I have a Singer 301 in a cabinet that I've been thinking of rehoming and so I offered it to him, but he is moving into a travel trailer. I will find the right person to pass her on to. She was given to me and she needs a little work. I've bought the parts, but truly I would rather spend my time sewing than working on the machines. Plus I have no space to put that machine (it's living in the garage right now) Anywho, St. Vinnie's had a half dozen sewing machines in the craft section, which have been there awhile. In the breezeway between the main part of the store and the furniture, there were three machines sitting on the floor. One was a Viking 5710 for $35.00. I opened it up and checked it out at the power station. Light came on, needle moved with the foot pedal so I took her home for $17.50. Upon getting home and getting to know her, I realized she was stuck in reverse! š® A quick Internet search found the fix, so with a hairdryer and some sewing oil, I soon had her purring like a kitten! While I was inside I gave her a good cleaning and oiling, so she is all ready for a sewing marathon! (Which will happen later today...I'm hosting my neighbors for coffee this morning) Without further ado...meet Ruby!

She is a gorgeous burgundy color with a cream extension table. The accessory tray is cream also under the sewing arm. All the feet and a ton of bobbins were included and the foot pedal is massive! All of this fits in a sturdy case. I think she may become my travel machine. I love Lil' Kenny, but I think Ruby might be better, especially with the extension table. I'll report back after we work together on a few projects! It's been a busy couple of weeks and I haven't had time to post. My sister in law came for a visit, which was fabulous! Then I had a week of ASG meetings, babies and getting ready for my trip to Moses Lake to see my sister, brother in law and niece. It had been a really long time since we had been together and the time flew by! We had so much fun, just hanging out, eating good food and enjoying each other. Can't wait to be together again! Now that I am back home, I have several projects in the works and my Sweetheart has gone to the ranch for a few weeks, so I have time to get things done. And what am I doing?

Watching YouTube with a cat on my lap! Computers!!!
I actually sewed something this week and wrote a blog post! But...I took pictures on my phone and started the post there. Finished the post on my tablet, adding a link to the pattern...what could possibly go wrong? Whatever I did, my blog was a hot mess for about 12 hours! I could not get it to format right; the post itself was in a skinny little column and where in the world did my cute little header image that I created go? It was driving me crazy last night, so I had to go jump on the desktop to fix it (the device I created all the backgrounds and widgets š) Too many devices you say? I had one more tweak in the theme to get things back the way they were.,.pray for me that I don't muck it up again! Oh by the way...the top I made was the Closet Core Marine Breton top. I'll try to add the pictures from my phone...much love...Mary

p.s. The first couple of paintings, I did at the far end of our dining table, which was fine, because I could watch the critters out the window and listen to an audiobook, podcasts or music, but I couldnāt see the tv. As I started doing more diamond painting, I moved a folding table to the window seat in the living room and could watch TV while I crafted, but all my supplies were out on the table and the cats found that highly offensive, knocking them off every chance they got. I donāt regularly peruse Craigslist every day, but yesterday I needed to go to Sunriver and thoughtā¦maybe Iāll check to see if there are any garage sales happening on my way or anything in the freebie section I might score. This drafting table had been posted for free the day before and I thought it would be the perfect setup! My sweetheart took me to Bend to pick it up (I think he just didnāt want me driving his truck š¤£) and then we swung into Sunriver on the way back to pick up my library holds. Our library has been going through an almost year long renovation, and while we had a temporary library location, someone drove their car through it, hence now the closest branch is Sunriver. It did speed up our renovation project, so our new and improved library will be opening ahead of schedule in September!

In sewing news, the placemats and table runner are almost finished. They will be quilted today, and then I will start planning a capsule wardrobe for Fall. Our next ASG meeting is about creating a capsule wardrobe, so I thought it would be nice to start thinking about it. Iām usually a āsew the next shiny thingā type sewist, and somehow my closet is somewhat cohesive, but sewing items that actually work together might work š. Itās only taken 50 years to have that epiphany! Well, I better disturb the cat, feed the dog and get me some coffee. It's been a relatively busy week for me. Nothing too earthshaking, but some excursions out into the world and a little bit of work around here. My friend's hotwater heater went, so that caused some angst (and a whole lot of work) She still went to our ASG picnic with me. I recently connected with an ASG group here in central Oregon and have really enjoyed spending time with my new sewing buddies! Pictures were taken (not on my phone), but I don't have any to share today. We took a group picture with "Maddie's Hair". Let me explain...my friend's 3 year old great granddaughter is battling leukemia. She was determined that she wouldn't lose her beautiful curls during chemo, but of course she did. A friend gave her a wonderful book about her hair "going on vacation" and coming back one day after the vacation is over. When her Mother asked her where her hair was going on vacation, Maddie said "with Grand Mom-Mom" (my friend). When she told me that, I immediately went online to find a hair piece that could be taken "on vacation". Creagh takes pictures of the hair wherever she goes, and it makes Maddie happy to see all the places her hair gets to go with Grand Mom-Mom! Cancer sucks! 'nuff said!

I've been sewing a bit. I'm currently working on some placemats and a table runner. I really need to make some pants! I spilled blackberry milkshake on my favorite Pietra pants last night, so that may get me motivated if the stains don't come out! I've been painting and diamond painting a bit too. What can I say...crafting ADD...it's a thing!

Today we are running to town to pick up some wheels for Tom's Jeep he's building and hit Costco (gotta make those trips to town count!) Then we are going to sand on the VW bug. I was reading my blogger feed and recently one of the bloggers I followed back in the day has resurfaced. In responding to her post, I checked on my blog because I needed the url to identify myself. 2 years since I last posted! Over 2 years! We were in the midst of covid vaccines and isolation...ugh! Certainly things have improved! So is Mary still Sewfast? Yes and no...I still sew and am pretty efficient about it. Being retired, there isn't that urgency to get things done so I have something new to wear to work or a job for hire. I limit who I sew for these days and try to do so with more intention. I don't feel a tremendous urge to buy fabric like I used to (say what???), but i think that may be due in part that i have a well curated stash that i can shop day or night. There is a bittersweet joy in discovering a beautiful fabric in your stash that has been languishing for years and hasn't been sewn into a much loved garment. I hope to remedy that problem. Patterns are another issue. I have many, some are too small now, and probably could make anything I wanted between the patterns and my Burda collection. I also am in 2 subscription services and am enjoying a new pattern every month. Closet Core patterns fit me really well, once I nail down the right size to make (I'm looking at you Nicks dress and top! I eventually settled on size 10, and anyone who knows me IRL knows that ship sailed a long time ago š¤£) I recently joined the Cashmerette club and am really digging their vibe right now. Itch to Stitch is starting their weekly summer sale this week...sigh. Love Kennis too!

Well, you may be wondering what I've been up to these last few years (or not...) We have spent winters at our friend's ranch for the last 3 years since I retired. We kinda work, but not really. It's our home away from home...we lost our 2 pomeranians during the covid years and were dogless for quite awhile. Tom wasn't sure we would have another dog again. I wasn't really feeling that, but I did have to grieve for a long time and still miss Jo and Sam to this day. I was so bad, I left their little nose sprints on the window where they watched out the driveway. Did not even think of the optics of it, but some friends stayed at our house while we were at the ranch and Janice cheerfully texted me "I washed your windows for you!" It was a good thing, because then I could start to move forward, but I thought "Man! She must think I am really a crappy housekeeper!" š¤ Anywho...I am happy to report we do have another dog in our life now. Blue is a charcoal lab that needed us as much as we needed him, and it's worked out beautifully! Here is a picture of Blue to end this post, because we all like blog posts with pictures. I will try to not make it another 2 years before I check in again!

He seems pretty content...don't you think?

Maryissewfasthttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12780345687245124170noreply@blogger.com3tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7011714312433909301.post-68313111466926642272021-04-27T08:51:00.002-07:002021-04-27T08:51:18.090-07:00Covid-19 Haze
Saturday we got our 2nd dose of the Pfizer Covid-19 vaccine. I was prepared to feel icky as many people had said the real reaction happened after their second dose. (Except for my friend Creagh that said all she experienced was a sore arm...I remained hopeful) We took it easy Saturday afternoon when we got home, but by Saturday night the fever, headache, body aches and nausea started. Sunday I thought I was going to die and yesterday I prayed to be put out of my misery! I made it through to day 3 and can finally see the light! I was able to drink a cup of coffee this morning, which did a lot to quell the headache and finally ate something. It was rough, but I can only imagine how much worse actually contracting the virus would be. I'm grateful that I was able to get the protection against that deadly virus. Today I will regroup and catch up on all the things we've let go for the last few days. Hopefully I will make it to the sewing studio to start working on all the projects I have cut out. I pray you are all well and have time to create!
Maryissewfasthttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12780345687245124170noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7011714312433909301.post-52958068822734469312021-04-23T07:28:00.002-07:002021-04-23T07:28:11.394-07:00Happy Friday
Happy Friday! It's a new day, ripe with possibilities. What am I going to do? Not sure yet, but you can bet it will be fun! (If your idea of fun includes sewing)

Projects I'm working on:

The Sew House Seven Burnside Bibs. Funny story...when my husband and I moved to Vancouver, Washington (back in the late 70's), I was just learning my way around Portland. Tom would send me for parts sometimes. No matter where I got lost, I always ended up on Burnside and could find my way home across the Burnside bridge! Our daughter lived on Burnside for awhile (up near 23rd, not crack town!!) I shudder when I think about how Portland has become š„ Enough about that...this is a sewing blog!

Flag Quilt. I started working on the Flag pattern I picked up at the quilt shop in Westport, Washington when we were out adventuring. I am sewing her on my new white Singer featherweight that Tom gave me for my birthday. I have named her Pearl and she sews like a dream. I always like to make a special project with each new machine I get. Does anyone else do that? Maybe you don't collect old sewing machines like I do. š

Crochet vest. I've been hooking it lately. I vacillate between knitting and crochet in my yarn projects. I have a large yarn stash, and my feelings lately is to use up what I have. The vest is an interesting chevron pattern and I'm close to finishing it. It's in shades of pink and burgundy that will go well with the burgundy Jeans when I get them made.

I pulled some black and white polka dot ITY for Inside the Hems jumpsuit sew along in May. We are making the Love Notions Sunday Romper, which is the Friday Feature pattern this week. You can get it for $5.00 today only. It's a great pattern! I made one last summer and am happy to get another version in my wardrobe! Love Notins has a new pattern coming next week...the Ballad top and dress. Be on the lookout for that because it looks to be a winner!

Well, I better get to seeing what this day has to offer...hope you are doing what you love!
Maryissewfasthttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12780345687245124170noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7011714312433909301.post-32066189805215419372021-04-16T08:08:00.000-07:002021-04-16T08:08:32.607-07:00
Hello my Sewing Friends! I've missed you! I didn't mean to stay away so long, but well...life happens! I wanted to let you know that I am starting a new vlog over on YouTube called...wait for it...Mary is Sewfast! I know...so original, but it will make a great tie in with the blog.

What I've been up to...I just finished quilting my Quiltville Grassy Creek mystery quilt and have it on the bed. I wasn't sure I liked it when I finished piecing it, but now that it is done and on the bed...I love it. The blue gray background colors are pulled out with the blue walls and makes the blocks pop. Sometimes you have to see a project through to the end to see how it will turn out. Quiltville Grassy Creek mystery quilt here.

Next up, I have some Sew House Seven Burnside bibs cut out in a beautiful green twill, and I have plans for some burgundy Jean's (still considering which pattern to use. I need to make some new sports bras as well, so I will be whipping some of these up.

Thank you for checking back in with me. I hope to return to a more active blog presence and learn how to make interesting sewing content on my new YouTube channel. Catch you soon.

Fiercely,

Mary
Maryissewfasthttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12780345687245124170noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7011714312433909301.post-1615825730218398992019-01-11T08:06:00.002-08:002019-01-11T08:07:55.617-08:00I'm In!Anyone else participating in the Pattern Review Sewing Bee? Ah, well...maybe 2019 will bring more blogging or vlogging. Time will tell. Been busy-you know this retirement gig is not for sissies! I have been warming the jumpseat in the groomer while Tom does the heavy lifting. We went out for a ride with our friends Jim and Louise yesterday and had a blast. I start jury duty tomorrow. Hopefully I won't be needed this week so I can go grooming with Tom. Working in the studio when I can. I put away Christmas today and cleaned house. Enjoyed watching the squirrels and birds that we are feeding. What can I say, I'm my Mother's daughter! Put the new bridge on my practice violin, but not playing because the Seahawks are on. Enough rambling...quilt blocks need to be made. See ya next year!!!Maryissewfasthttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12780345687245124170noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7011714312433909301.post-7025971642537873572018-10-18T07:13:00.000-07:002018-10-18T07:13:02.706-07:00Hello...???Anybody still out there??? I have not posted in almost a year!!! Years people!
Blogging used to be something I did daily once upon a time! And then life changed, as it always does, leaving me with no time to blog. It became "one more thing" and I didn't need another chore. But the pendulum has swung again and I do have time for such things, but the blogging community seems to have moved on. I still follow blogs, but now what I really enjoy is listening to the new iteration...VLOGs! I love Rachel at Stitched Up; Lindsay of Inside the Hem; Liz Sews; Rachel and Nikki-The Stitch Sisters and more! I thought I might give vlogging a shot and when I checked my YouTube channel, I see I already have 2 subscribers! What???!!! I did do a Fabricmart haul videoa few years back when I entered their bundle contest. I still love their bundles, but have not bought any in quite awhile. I haven't really bought alot of fabric except for the occasional remnant at JoAnns (I'm a sucker for remnants) because truly I have a magnificant stash and need to sew from it! I think I will do a best of the stash haul video to inspire me to get cracking with those gorgeous fabrics that have been waiting for their time to shine! I'll work on that! What I have been doing is alot more quilting and of course sewing knits! I am loving big warm sweaters and fleece tops. Tom says "You are really into wearing blankets right now, aren't you? Yep, it's getting cold again and blankets are what I need. I will sign off now as we are getting ready to go to the snow show, but will leave you with a picture of my precious babies and I playing in the snow last year.
Actually I have been sewing on a quasi-regular basis, but I don't think you want to see 9 pair of flannel pj pants! The flannel is pretty nice though...Tom's are all wildlife prints and I have really got into foxes. Love a good flannel sale! Today I made up Vogue 9224, a handkerchief hem tunic. I used a colorful ITY knit from Fabricmart. The only change I made is I cut the front on the fold to eliminate the front seam because I didn't want to break up the print. I cut a size medium, but I think the next one I will size down to a small because there is plenty of room. I'm thinking it will look adorable this spring with a pair of white leggings and flats.
I can always tell when I am under pressure because I buy fabric. Anyone else do that too? Let's just say, there are some beautiful fabrics heading my way. Fabricmart is always there for me with a great sale when I need them! The good news is that I have been using fabric like nobodies business. I finished a maxi, a top and an alteration on a sweater last night. I have one more top cut out to sew and then I need to have a cutting session. I plan to sew again today...Tom is out on a wildfire so I have all weekend to sew (and buy more fabric). Pictures to come when my photographer returns.

Question...do you find Kwik Sew patterns run big? I have made two styles recently cut out at my size and had to take things in significantly. I am not a petite person by any stretch of the imagination, but I am thinking I need to start at the XS size! Vanity sizing?

Well, I am going to grab a bite and head into the studio...have a great weekend!

Our snowmobile club has a last hurrah and we have a work party to pick up trash and work on the warming shelter. I walked 4 miles up hill today...just a little tired! And I didn't even have my Fitbit on, dang it! Tomorrow I will work out in the greenhouse and maybe stitch a few seams. How's your weekend shaping up?

This is the first year I have had a green house here, which is must if you want to grow a garden here. Our growing season is pretty short, and we are still having freezing temps overnight. One of my girls who owns a garden store in town said they don't start most of their plants until Father's Day because she doesn't want to heat the green house. My green house is only 10' X 12', so it is staying pretty warm already. The back half is already full with some bedding plants and seed trays of things I am starting. Tom built a planter box in the back and made me a long gutter planter. Pretty exciting stuff!

In sew news, I have a knit dress half made, a fleece jacket to cut out and a stack of fabrics to consider for some artful tees. I have cleaned one corner of the studio...Ha! Let's see if I can clean the rest of it before the sewing machine station gets fouled again! Rhonda Buss did a piece outing the disarray of her studio yesterday. I don't know...I think tidiness is a barrier to creativity. At least that's what I tell myself so I don't judge the mess in my room!

Busy day ahead...Quality Improvement meeting early and then a meeting in Bend for the Immunization coalition group I'm in. That means I will have to miss the Trauma Informed care meeting at noon. One of my girls said "you need to take more time off". Maybe I do...Maryissewfasthttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12780345687245124170noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7011714312433909301.post-92055550307440178572016-04-09T06:00:00.005-07:002016-04-09T06:04:05.928-07:00Happy Saturday! Warning! Picture HeavyIs anyone else excited as me that the weekend is finally here? Oy! What a work week! I think the residual work week stress is what woke me up at 2:00 am, but I did stay in bed and think about my next projects until 4:00 when a certain little dog realized Mama was awake! So I got up, took the dogs out and started the day. Little dogs are now sound asleep after their breakfast.

I have lots of projects on tap. I have a Kwiksew knit dress cut out that should whip right up Maybe I can get it done for tonight's Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation dinner? I also have the pink camo fleece jacket to pu together, and ideas are collecting in my head for some artful tees.

I am patiently waiting for a Fabricmart drop. They had some bundle offers this week, and you all know how I love bundles! It got me thinking about my fabric procurement. Once upon a time, I was a big Fabric.com supporter. Then the fabric and service started to decline, so my main squeeze became Fabricmart. Most of my favorite garments started with Fabricmart. Let me take a look down memory lane:
The Fabricmart Pinterest Bundle competition voting is up here http://www.fabricmartfabrics.com/Do-You-Love-Pinterest.html Go take a look at the creativity and please vote!

The sewing continues here. I partook of the Hancocks liquidation sale and picked up a bunch of patterns at 6 for $7.50 and the fleece was marked down to 75%. I picked up a beautiful pink camo. I also purchased the Tilton sisters Craftsy class the Artful Tee Shirt and am playing around with different designs.

In other activities, we went for a fabulous snowmobile ride on Saturday and cleaned the garage out on Sunday. The weather is warming up and the greenhouse is primed for growing. Bring on Spring!
I completed my Fabricmart Bundle challenge before the deadline! This is huge! Even though I probably won't win the competition, I feel like a winner because I reached a goal I wasn't sure I could reach. Work has been so all encompassing and for so long an excuse for not being creative. Excuse no more! Without further ado...here is my collection:
I'm on track to complete my challenge with time to spare. Hopefully this week will not derail my efforts.

I picked up 4 pairs of leggings at the Lularoe party. They actually are long enough and the fabric is incredibly soft! I don't think I could make them for the price, even if I could find the fabric. That won't stop me from making a pattern though! Going to spend the rest of the evening with my sweetie watching college basketball...regularly scheduled sewing will resume early tomorrow morning.
