Music Monday...More than Words

Hello fellow music lovers. I was unsure of what Music Monday would be this morning when I woke up. Sure, I could pick a band and write some diatribe about why I like them, but that would be so uninspiring. So I turned on the radio and inspiration hit! The 1991 surprise acoustic love ballad from Extreme..."More than Words". This song struck a chord with me when it first came out and still speaks to me today when I hear it. Listen to the words:

More Than Words
Extreme

Saying I love you

Is not the words I want to hear from you
It's not that I want youNot to say, but if you only knew
How easy it would be to show me how you feel
More than words is all you have to do to make it real
Then you wouldn't have to say that you love me
Cos I'd already know

(Chorus) What would you do if my heart was torn in two
More than words to show you feel
That your love for me is real
What would you say if I took those words away
Then you couldn't make things new
Just by saying I love youMore than words

Now I've tried to talk to you and make you understand
All you have to do is close your eyes
And just reach out your hands and touch me
Hold me close don't ever let me go
More than words is all I ever needed you to show
Then you wouldn't have to say that you love me
Cos I'd already know

(Chorus)

More than words

This song means a lot to me. It describes how I feel about my Hunny. He shows me he loves me in so many different ways...more than words could show...in the little everyday things he does. Relationships take work and nurturing. I thank God every day for mine...Love ya Hunny!

In a Jam...

No, I'm not in trouble. Regularly scheduled sewing will be interupted for the making of the jam. Tomorrow several young people, including my daughter are coming over to learn how to make jam and have a BBQ. Young people...makes me feel kind of old, but I guess I am!!! The weather is supposed to be HOT, so the ac will need to be on in the house. Tom is going to set up the propane stove up on the patio, so maybe we will do the processing outside. Annie is bringing little Hayden, so we all will get our baby fix. FUN!!!!

Gardening and Puppies

I was watering the garden tonight and thought I would document my outdoor passion...my garden. I love to grow vegetables and despite the weird weather that global warming has brought us, my garden is finally starting to thrive. We have been enjoying radishes for a couple weeks now and the broccoli is about to explode. I am really pleased with the cabbage this year, as I grew it from seed this year. The raspberries are starting to turn red and I admit, it's hard not to just eat them as they ripen! I puttered in the garden for a little while after taking the pictures and when I looked up towards the house, I spied Kodi peeking over the bank watching me. He looked awfully cute, so I had to take a few shots of him as well.

Jo was on the sofa recovering from his oral surgery today. We had to go to the big city for his surgery, so I spent the day in town. After I dropped him off I went to buy some sewing stuff off a Craiglist ad I answered yesterday. The woman had bought this stuff at an estate sale exclaimed that this woman had "so much sewing stuff" it was insane. I laughed as I thought "Sounds like me". She had no clue about what we sewist stash!!! Anyway, I walked away with 8 cuts of vintage fabric, cards of buttons, snaps, elastic thread and some newer thread and I almost forgot...a full bolt of some nice interfacing...for $10.00!!! I didn't say anything right away when she said $10.00, so she must have thought I was balking at the price. She asked "Is that too much"? I happily paid her $10.00 and hauled away my treasures. I was very close to one of my favorite thrift stores that I rarely get to anymore, so I took some time to shop. I then headed towards Beaverton to shop Trader Joes before heading to my daughter's office to take her out to lunch. It always amazes me when I see her in her professional role...that's my little girl!!! Lastly is a picture of the Tutti Fruity skirt. Please excuse the stupid model pose...it just doesn't feel natural to me...guess that's why I'm not a model! Tomorrow is Baby day!!! Yay!!!

Music Monday and My New Baby

Today I have decided not to highlight a single artist or group. Today I salute the radio station that I have been listening to for the last couple weeks. Usually I just go with the flow and listen to 98.7 KUPL, a country station that my Hunny prefers. I love country music, but once in awhile I like to mix it up and listen to lots of different genres. 97.1 Charlie FM fills that need. Their slogan is "We play everything" and they mean it. Saturday I was listening on the drive home from work and I heard Jerry Reed crooning "When You're Hot, You're Hot", followed by "Living La Vida Loca" by Ricky Martin. Who would have thought of mixing those songs??? Me, of course!!! I'm listening right now...Motley Crue...."Girls, Girls, Girls"...let's see what comes up next...Oh Boy...it's Sugar Ray..."Every Morning"...Does Mark McGrath even rock anymore since he became Rico Suave TV Celebrity Reporter??? I miss his music. Now it's Poison's "Talk Dirty to Me"...now there's a classic..."Jungle Love"...Morris Day & the Time...can you say oh-wee-oh-wee-oh? Oh man...it's "Sugar, Sugar" by the Archies...I remember when I got the 45 RPM off the cereal box...Man, I love this station!!! Now it's REM..."Man on the Moon"...one last song for the road...Thelma Houston..."Don't leave me this Way"...Wow!!! Satisfies the need in me!!! Hey Charlie! For those about to rock, WE SALUTE YOU!!!
In addition to Music Monday, I brought home a new baby today...when Tom scours Craigslist, he looks for auto parts and MAN things...I always search "Sewing" for whatever I can find. Saturday I found a Singer TouchTronic 2001 for $25.00 in our little burg of Estacada. This is one of the first electronic machines. The gal said it had been recently serviced, so I thought I would give it a look-see. I sat down to try it out and the tension was all screwy. She said "I don't know anything about tension"...a quick flick of the dial and I had it stitching with great tension. It had the manual included...always a good thing so I can figure out the little intricacys of this baby. It is able to do 1 thread chainstitching (no bobbin), but I think the chainstitch fitting is missing, so I am on the lookout for those accessories. I thought I might give it to one of my girls that want to learn to sew or upgrade Sara so Abby could have the Hello Kitty Machine (my last Singer find...who puts a Hello Kitty sticker on a magnificent machine???), but as my Hunny suggested, I think I will keep it for my beach house machine (when we find the perfect beach house!!!) Sorry Punkin...you can use her when you come to visit! Today the sun acted like it was going to shine, so I wore my Tutti Fruitti skirt to work...Tom took a picture which I will post later...I really like how it fits, but I need to take modeling lessons...I wore panty hose to work as I am still pretty pale since we live on the dark side of the moon...I want to know why pantyhose are so high waisted? I feel like Steve Urkel for heaven's sake. I am not short by any stretch of the imagination, but the waistband of panty hose always hit me right below the girls...I need to do something different. Enough for that rant! The mysteries of Life!!!

Work

Blah, blah, blah...working a double...no sewing today. It's actually a pretty boring day here at the doggy ranch...the class is about ready to graduate and they have all been pretty easy keepers. Just been finishing up preparations for the incoming class. I did do something kind of fun though. 20 years ago we were a foster family. We took in mostly toddlers, but were blessed with a special baby that we had for the first year of her life. Jess was a happy baby and her Mom was in the process of getting her life back together. Sara was thrilled to have "her baby sister". We were fortunate enough to be a part of that and ultimately they were reunited and went on with their lives. Mom finished college, in fact she was the one who gave me a kick in the pants to go back to school and become an RN...they moved back East to be closer to family and over the years we lost touch. Anyway, I did some searching on myspace and I believe I may have found them! I don't know if she will want to have contact with us, or maybe she will think I am just some crazy ol' lady, but I am hopeful that we can reconnect. God bless the internet!

Socks

It's a rather dreary Saturday morning here in Oregon...where has my sunshine gone? Hopefully she is just hiding behind the clouds and will smile upon us this afternoon. In sewing news...I finished my embroidery order Thursday night...ready for pickup. I have been working on a Butterick tunic that has needed a lot of tweaking, but should be done soon. My BWOF T-shirt is almost done, but also needs some tweaks...it fits a little looser than I envisioned (an easy fix) so it should be ready by tomorrow...we'll see. Yesterday after work I spent some time in the garden...weeding the strawberries, enjoying the first 2 raspberries to be produced on our canes (they are loaded and this species produces again in the Fall...mmmm). I harvested some more radishes...Tom says they have a little bite to them...I planted 2 types and the longer shaped ones do have a little more zing than the round globes. The broccoli is starting to head...I can almost taste the Sweet Tomatoes broccoli salad already!!! I bought a new camera battery yesterday (the camera died while I was taking Hayden pictures...boo-hoo) I will have to post some garden pics. I got so engrossed in garden work that after we went for our walk, I was too pooped to focus on anything but the futon in the family room. I had a glorious pre-bed time nap while Pirates of the Caribbean at World's End played on the TV. I worried that my nap would ruin my sleep, but no problem!!! Anyway, the nice weather of late has inspired me to work on recovering the swing (a project that has long been pushed to the back burner, so I think I will work on that this afternoon unless I get a better offer!) Another project I plan to start is sock knitting. Kristi posted this great Guided by Love sock pattern she designed, the proceeds to benefit the Seeing Eye. Although they are not Guide Dogs, my employer, they share the same mission and purpose and I am all for supporting that, so I gladly bought the pattern. I plan to make socks for my Guide Dogs compadres. Now to find the perfect yarn! Almost (but not quite) as fun as fabric shopping!
