Rookie!

That's what I've been muttering to myself all morning. We are going to LaPine tomorrow and will spend our days off over there. That's a good thing. It does however seriously impede my sewing time, so I thought I would treat myself to a couple of hours of sewing before I went to work. I have been very good getting projects done for others and I have several things cut out for me that I would like to finish. I replaced a zipper in a sweatshirt for a friend yesterday, so I thought I would begin with a nice blouse for me. The Evolve was set to coverstitch, so the first order of business was to change it back to serge. Not a big deal...it has the jet air threading which is super easy...not that threading a serger scares me...I was the elastic girl at Jantzen and time spent threading was money lost, so this girl was fast with the thread changing! Anyhoo...changeover done and test seam sewn...WTH??? Looks horrible! So I fiddle around...could it be I stuck the needle in wrong? How'd I do that??? Needle fixed...new test seam...WTH??? Still has problems...check the threading...lower looper thread over the guide instead of through it. How'd I do that??? Fixed that and new test seam. Sews fine...start on the garment...the chain stitch thread pulls out...WTH??? Old cone of serger thread...replace with good thread...test seam good. Start sewing garment again...sew wrong pieces together...WTH??? I think I'll just blog about it while I eat my lunch and go to work. Hope this bad karma doesn't stick with me there...no one wants a nurse with a black cloud over her head! Perhaps the sewing Gods will smile on me when I get home tonight. Hope you are all having a good sew day!

That is how I have felt the past few days, ripping out dumb mistakes, nothing seeming right, so I stayed out of the sewing room.

You mentioned your trip impeding your sewing time. That is how I gauge almost everything I do--how it affects my sewing/knitting time.

Oh man, I have had days like that! I hope the kinks have been worked out by the time you get home. And I too always have a little twinge when I plan something fun because it will take away sewing time!

Too bad you're on the west coast Or I would have you over my house helping me with my 2 skirts (that will probably never get done) LOL!

I had to rip out a few things in a shirt I'm making for my son. Two of those things being the collar and the facing. Not fun.

Just a post script to this post: Sewing did go well on this blouse after work...until about midnight. You know that old adage...quit while you're ahead? The sleeves were a little loose, so I thought...easy fix, I'll taper them in a bit. First one done...perfect...second one...wait a minute...that's the first one again. Of course I was serging it, so the sleeves had to come off and be reworked because there was not enough fabric for a new sleeve. It's not quite done yet, but I think I'm going to like the results better than the original pattern. So the moral of the story...don't serge when you are too tired!!!
