I tried to ruin it...

In spite of my best efforts to ruin this top, I finished it this morning and was able to wear it to work. The pattern is Butterick 4985 view B...the one with the puffy banded sleeve. Because of my late night mishap, I needed to revamp the sleeve, and to be honest, I am much happier with what I did because I didn't care for the poofiness anyway. That's how I got in trouble with the sleeve in the first place! Because I didn't have any extra fabric to cut a new sleeve (or band for that matter), I cut the band that had not been trimmed twice by my mistake and cut it in half lengthwise. I placed the trimmed sleeve on top of the good sleeve and graded it. Since this sleeve had gathers in the head and bottom it worked fine. If it had been a fitted sleeve...well, it would have morphed into a sleeveless blouse. See, there's always a way to fix a boo-boo if you stare at it long enough! To finish the sleeve I took a tuck in the bottom to make a comfortable fit around my arm and then cut down the bands to fit. I basted the tuck flat so it released into a nice pleat towards the sleve cap and bound it with the bands. I put buttons at the sleeve pleat for accent. I am pleasantly surprised that this top went from a wadder to a winner! It is comfortable and suitable to wear to work. Brown seems to be my neutral now, so I gravitate towards shades of brown and orange when I buy fabric. How often do you "change" colors?

Very nice blouse; nobody would have known you had such trouble if you hadn't posted about it! It looks great on you. Re. colours; I wore blues, mainly navy and dove blue with a little grey added in for about 25 years, then 2 years ago I suddenly started wearing black and beige just to get out of "my blue phase" but both colours make me look extremely washed out so I've slowly started to buy pink-berry coloured fabrics and little brown as a well. We'll see how long this phase will last.

You're too funny. As for colors, I have found that I need to wear lighter shades as I get older. My bold jewel tones are starting to look to drastic on me.
